...God is not a political football -- that's how one Christian author is responding to the latest efforts by the Democratic Party to try to get more of the Christian vote. Democratic politicos are hoping to convince people of faith that God is on their side regarding the issues of the day. But writer and preacher Jack Heckathorne insists that is not how God operates. "God differentiates people based on whether they have a faith in his Son or not," Heckathorne says. "There could be people in the Democratic Party that are good Christians," he points out, "and there could be bad people in the Republican Party." No particular party can claim God's allegiance, the Christian author asserts, but voters will have to determine whether or not a party's stances on the issues are compatible with biblical teachings. Ultimately, Heckathorne predicts, spurious and insincere efforts to court religious voters will fail. [Bill Fancher]
